This report contains an in-depth explanation of trauma, trauma-informed training, and treatment methods, while considering the literature on crisis intervention models used within various trauma models including sexual assault, post-traumatic stress disorder, domestic violence, and human trafficking. While examining human trafficking as a trauma model, we (the authors) researched various survivor service models, and provided information about the notable differences in services provided between the SAFE Center and these other organizations. These recommendations are based on the current capacity of the SAFE Center, their mission, and their goals. The two short-term goals that we recommend the SAFE Center invest in include: (1) creating collaborative partnerships with students and colleges at the University of Maryland as well as with local Prince George’s community organizations, and (2) creating brochures to be passed out to local police departments, and making a public position statement or memo. By investing in these short-term goals, the SAFE Center can build a strong reputation and establish a foundation upon which to develop their longer-term aspirations.
