Have you ever thought about how the salado people killed animals to eat and feed their families? Well I will be talking about how they did that today and tell you about the tricks and techniques they have up their sleeve. Well, there was something called a dart point; they would either put the dart point on a long stick and make it a spear or put them on an arrow so they could shoot it with a bow. There are different sizes of dart points used depending upon which animal they were hunting. If they were hunting a rabbit, they would put a small dart point on. If they were hunting for a wooly mammoth, they would use larger dart points. They generally searched for obsidian, flint, stone, chert, and bone. The reason they used obsidian is because it chips easily and when it chips it has a sharp edge. When obsidian is chipped, it has the appearance and slicing ability of broken glass. It is also a very hard rock that won't shatter on impact. The reason they used flint is because it was a really sharp substance when formed and can strike fire; they also used flint because it didn’t dull as quickly as all the other rocks. They also used it for a knife because it doesn't break on impact. Those are the main rocks used back in this time period.
They also used something called a snare. They would have to place this snare in certain places because this little snare isn't going to catch a huge bear. So you have to place it where there are rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, etc. and even make a path to guide the small animal into their trap. They made these snares with bendable branches, strong fibers, etc. and they would tie this special knot to make it tighten and loosen so when the animal struggled to make its way through the hole the snare
