Saltwater Biome The saltwater biome is the biggest biome in the world (“Marine” 1). Although there are many biomes on Earth, what makes this biome unique? The climate, flora, fauna, and location of the biome is what makes this biome special. There are other things that make this biome unique too. The saltwater biome is partially responsible for the invention of salt water taffy, along with a natural disaster that helped with the making of the loved sweet. The climate of the saltwater includes the temperature and salt amount. The temperature ranges from “-2 degrees Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius” (“The Ocean” 3). In Fahrenheit, that is 28.4 degrees to 82.4 degrees. The deepest parts are …show more content…
There are sharks, starfish, octopi, anemones, sponges, micro-organisms, and mollusks (Postlethwat, et al. 786) (“Aquatic Biomes” 1-2) and (“Marine” 2). Other fishes that are in the saltwater biome include angelfish and jellyfish. One of the adaptations for saltwater fish is that they are “hypotonic” compared to their surroundings (Postlethwat, et al. 782). This causes fish to have less water and more ions. Sharks “raise the concetration of solutes to be at the same level as the sea water”; Sharks do this to make their bodies less toxic (Postlethwat, et al. 786). Animals in the saltwater biomes other than fish are whales, crustaceans, bacteria, and fungi (“Marine” 2). Other parts of the biome will include lobsters and different …show more content…
The saltwater biome is also important for those who want to fish for certain fish. The saltwater biome includes five of the most well-known oceans (“Marine” 1). The oceans are the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Arctic Ocean, and the Southern Ocean (“Marine” 1). The oceans cover almost the entire Earth other than the continents that humans inhabit. In the end, the saltwater biome is very unique even though it covers most of the world. The number of plants, photosynthetic or not, live in the saltwater biome is unknown. Also, an unknown number of animals live in the saltwater biome. The likely-hood of finding everything in this biome is practically non-existent even with the technology people have now. One day humans may find everything, but it will most likely not happen soon. There are many biomes on Earth, but none are the same as the saltwater biome.
