Sam Hustle: A Short Story

There once was a charismatic boy named Sam Hustle who played basketball. He always dreamed of playing for Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. One day after school Sam opened the mail and noticed a letter addressed to him from Creighton. He ripped open the letter and as he read it he saw it was a full ride scholarship to play basketball and go to college. He was galvanized with this news. He rushed upstairs to tell his parents the good news.
One year later Sam rolled up to college. He was exuberant when he opened the door to the gym. The gym was shiney, immense and made Sam shocked to be a part of such a special place.

The crowd is on their feet! Time doesn’t seem to move but the clocks ticks down to zero and the buzzer sounds. SWISH!! The shot is good, the referee indicated the shot was out of Tim’s hands prior to the buzzer. Blue Jays win the game. The crowd goes wild and rushes the court. It was the best win these two friends could ever dream of. Definitely, a game for the record books. The locker room was crazy. The team was overjoyed with what they had accomplished tonight. The team rallied and pulled together and fought hard for this win. After the team showered and cleaned up the team went for pizza. The team walked to the Pizza Hut and the customers were clapping for them and cheering. This young Blue Jay team was hometown heros. The game of basketball has taught this team a lifelong lesson of friendship and determination. The season is far from over and the team is glad. They have much more to accomplish this season. It seems as though the brush with tragedy has changed the entire team. Each game means more then the game before. Every team member has a role on and off the court. From the Coach to the trainer these Blue Jays will be together forever. The Blue Jays ended their season 10-3 record, not bad for a young group of men just wanting to play basketball.
