As a result, my rural homestay really confirmed my compassion of one day becoming a school social worker. During my rural homestay, I gained a better understand of the school system in a village in Uganda. My host family consisted of two tatas and their many grandchildren. The two tatas were both teachers but were both recently retired. One of the tatas worked at a government school and the other one worked at a private school. Furthermore, the second goal was the idea to provide universal primary quality education to ensure that all boys and girls complete a full course of primary education. Mapp stated that “poverty, lack of education, and discrimination are risk factors for many social problems and therefore reducing them can reduce other issues as well” (2014, 205). The author discussed about the importance of education because it reduces many risk factors. My other goal was to work for the D.H.H.S in child protection services. I never thought about going further in my education mostly because I am a much older student and the amount of debt already accumulated seems slightly overwhelming. The other reason is my age itself, or at least it was. When starting out I let my age become a negative and always felt somewhat out of place.…

While girls do still face difficulties in getting an education, with barriers such as expectations of domestic work or a lack of female sanitation facilities at the school, in Rwanda it is actually boys who have a higher chance of leaving primary school early, with about a 20% higher probability of dropping out than girls (Ibid). There is also evidence which indicates that the quick expansion of the primary education system in Rwanda has put pressure on already overstretched government resources, and while many children are attending school, the quality of their education is poor. As outlined by the Independent Commission for Aid Impact: “There has … been a lack of attention to learning outcomes and to the trade-off between increasing access and ensuring quality. As a result, the quality of education being provided to most children is so low that a large majority is failing to achieve basic literacy and numeracy” (ICAI 2012, pp. 1). It is not uncommon for a teacher with minimal competence or training to be placed in charge of a classroom with over 40 students with little to no basic facilities such as books and desks.…

Countries with higher levels of female secondary-school enrollment have lower infant mortality rates, lower fertility, lower rates of HIV and AIDS, and better child nutrition (Mercy Tembon and Lucia Fort, 2008). Indian government measures have led to near-universal enrolment of children…
