Scott Pruitt is unfit to be administrator of the EPA. As a man with no education in environmental science, he has an extreme bias towards the fossil fuel industry. Also, Pruitt has been careless with his budget, has broken the law, and has secretly gone behind his agency’s back to propose laws with little to no scientific evidence with the sole intent of helping the fossil fuel industry rather than the environment. These instances are not just characteristics of a poor administrator, but prove that he is unfit for the job and should not be in office.
Pruitt’s previously documented relationship with fossil fuel industries certainly sticks out when reviewing his resume. This alone shows that he cares more about businesses getting their way while polluting the planet than he does protecting the …show more content…
As Pruitt continued to roll back on the environmental-friendly laws that former President Obama valued, the EPA’s Advisory Science Board, a group of ten scientists with four of them appointed by Pruitt himself, had challenged the reasoning for many of Pruitt’s decisions. “The main purpose of the board is to review the quality and relevance of scientific research used by the EPA to draft regulations” (Lavelle). Each review concluded with the fact that all the proposed regulations “lacked peer review” meaning Pruitt decided upon these without much communication (Lavelle). Many workers from the EPA, when asked about Pruitt’s plans to allow more and more fossil fuel use, said that “there is uncertainty about what scientific work, if any, would support [these proposals]” (Lavelle). It is interesting to find that Pruitt, a man with no environmental science background, is proposing reduced regulations without really listening to the many scientists in the EPA who disagree. The lack of peer-review shows secrecy in Pruitt and also his lack of trust in his agency to agree with him instead of scientific
