“There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship.(Aquinas)” Friendship is a precious thing, it’s when two or more people care for each other so much that their happiness become almost more important than anything else. But to have true friendship, one must show or work on obtaining some traits. Some of those friendship traits include selflessness, defending or protecting each other, and wanting the other to be happy. As long as someone has these qualities they have a true friendship.
First, is the quality or trait of selflessness. Selflessness is the act of putting other people's needs and wants before their own. George made countless acts of selflessness. One such occasion is, “‘God a’mighty, if I was alone I could live

Lennie understood that to be a good friend, he should let him know that he would leave if it was truly what George wanted. “‘No-look! I was jus’ foolin’, Lennie. ’Cause I want you to stay with me.’(13)” George realized that he had been a bad friend before when he was saying life would be easier without Lennie, so he made sure that Lennie understood that he didn’t mean what he had said before and that he did want him to be with him. Only a true friend would be willing to give up next to everything for the other. Lennie and George both express their selflessness throughout the story. That is only one reason why George and Lennie have a true friendship.
Second, is the quality or trait of defending and protecting each other. Not only do they protect each other physically, but also socially and mentally. George has protected or tried to protect Lennie from several things. One instance is the time in Weed. In Weed Lennie grabbed a girl's dress, because he wanted to feel it. The girl freaked out and accused him of raping her. “‘So we sit in a irrigation ditch under water all the rest of that day. Got on’y our heads
