Seven Commandments In Animal Farm

Decent Essays
Animalism basically stated that animals are superior to humans, and all humans are evil. The principles of Animalism are evident in the Seven Commandments which prohibits any animals from interacting with anything human. Our government is based on this and ideas similar to those of a communist nation. I see Animal Farm as a utopia because all the animals are equal and everyone is able to get along except for Napoleon, who manipulates our comrades to believe his sayings.

The concerning issue of equality is an extremely complex topic that is difficult to define. After reading four different pieces of literature, we have discovered that each piece has a different view on how to achieve true equality. The first piece of literature that we read was Animal Farm, which displayed an allegory of the Russian Revolution. This novel used animals to symbolize the Russian communist party, and like the Russian party, the animals had a cruel dictator.…

Animal Farm is a scathing critique of communism by George Orwell. However, he presents it in an interesting format by spoofing another historical event at the time. The story in Animal Farm bears more than a passing resemblance to the Russian Revolution, as many animals share characteristics with the people of the Russian Revolution, the result of both the story and the revolution is the same, and common themes emerge in both events. One way Animal Farm shows similarities to the Russian Revolution is that many characters overlap.…

One reason animalism fails is because of power grabs by animals. There are examples of this throughout the book. One power grab that failed animalism, was when the pigs take the milk and the apples for themselves. “So it was agreed without further argument that the milk and windfall apples (and also the main crop of apples when they ripened) should be reserved for the pigs alone.” (P.g 36)…

Revised memories, interactions with humans, and further altering of the Principals of Animalism guarantee Napoleon’s power as an absolute leader. The deaths of the other animals simply sealed anyone from talking back to Napoleon, and even Clover has been given a stout mare to keep her from spreading negative gossips regarding Napoleon. Napoleon has completely trashed the seven commandments by changing the rule that 'animals are equal but some are more equal than others' which displays the special treatment dogs and pigs receive compared to the other labour working animals. He also stands on his two hinds, defying the "whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy"(9) rule, wears human clothing, drinks alcohol, sleeps on sheets and will not hesitate…

In Animal Farm, the prevailing ideology that controls the farm is the philosophy of Animalism. The seeds of Animalism were planted in the minds of the pigs after Old Major’s rebellion-inciting speech at the beginning of the story. Napoleon and a few of the other pigs then crafted the philosophy of Animalism as it exists throughout most of the story. Eventually, the pigs simplify the philosophy into seven rules, called the Seven Commandments. The Seven Commandments include important truths such as “Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy”…
