Shirley Kotteer Research Paper

On December 15, 1930, on a farm that is still around today between Waterloo and Columbia, Illinois, Shirley Kolmer was welcomed into the world. Arthur and Carmelita had just given birth to their fourth child, Shirley. Shirley had 7 siblings, Mary Lou, 4; Lee Roy, who would be 3 in January; and Dorothy; who was almost 15 months old. Almost a year after Shirley was born, the Kolmer’s added a new baby girl into the family, named Elizabeth. Elizabeth would be followed John and James who died as infants and the youngest, Joseph, born in 1945. Two days after her birth, on December 17, 1930, Shirley Komler had a white gown on and was at SPPS Church in Waterloo, Illinois. Shirley was about to get baptized two days after her birth! Father Charles J. Eschmann was upset with Carmelita Kolmer because their was no saint named Shirley. Shirley had just graduated from SPPS elementary school and Elizabeth was onto eighth grade. Elizabeth had just dropped a handful of cherries into a basket then turned and said to her sister, “You known, I think what I want to do next year is go to the motherhouse to high school and go to the convent.” The Provincial House of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ was just twenty miles south of the Kolmer farm. Shirley replied after throwing a handful of cherry fruit into the basket, “Oh, I’m going to do that this fall.” Elizabeth replied, “Have you told Mom and Dad?” Casually Shirley responded, “No I have to do that sometime.” Elizabeth responded to Shirley, “You better do that soon, the entrance date is late August.” By August 26 of that same year, Shirley Kolmer was a freshman in the high school and an aspirant at the Adorers of the Blood of Christ.
