The few short term effects were all negative, seeing as how the country needed time to make good of their investment in the land. While the long term effects were both good and bad, America started to use the land to it’s potential as a nation, but hit a few bumps in the road in trying to do so. The short term effects were primarily the nations debt that the territory had brought. The area itself was far too expensive for America at the time, they were just coming off of a war and didn’t have any money to fund the land. Some long term effects on the territory weren’t good either, such as territorial disputes and the growing tension it brought with slavery. The nation had gained the land from the French, but the Indians still fought back and so did the Spanish on the western border. Accomplishing the immense task of the Purchase in the 1800’s is what America 's biggest hurdle to jump over was. The turning point being the win in the French and Indian war and buying the territory, now showing the country growing and gaining momentum in its history. The factors coming into play were the war waged and the treaty signed, if not fought and signed the territory would possibly be in the hands of someone else today. The key people involved helped bring the country strength, unity, momentum, and expansion to allow the country to grow into America. The effects, short and long, gave the country some positive feedback, helping the nation learn and grow from its experiences.
