Should Children Watch Too Much T. V Today?

Decent Essays
Children do watch too much T.V today in my opinion I say that because some kids are always at the babysitters. They are there because their parents have to work all of the time to pay the bills. Most of the time single moms or dads can’t spend as much time as they want with their kids. They can't because they have to work to say the bills so that they have a roof over their heads. When the kids are at the babysitter or at a friends house they don't go outside to pay they just stay inside and watch movie or a funny T.V show. People my age always watch T.V instead of going outside because that is what they think is right. Parents should tell their kids to go outside and do something instead of just letting them sit inside and do nothing all day.

In the article, “ From Stephen King to Slenderman: Why the horror genre is particularly horrible for women” by Anne Elizabeth Moore found on Salon.com. It discusses the character Slenderman and the 12 year olds who tried to kill one of their friends. In this generation kids are taking Internet fictional characters and seeing them as being realistic. Their parents are clearly unable to teach them fantasy verses reality thus causing appalling events to happen. In a recent tragic event two young girls tried to kill their “best friend” to be a part of a fictional characters world named slenderman.…

Furthermore, television has a harmful impact on our nation’s youth by promoting violence, sexual content, and foul language. Kids who absorb a lot of media are less likely to do well in school, be adjusted socially, and are more likely to be overweight than kids who are low users of media. Parents need to take control, and limit their kids screen viewing time ever day. Parents also need to make sure that the shows they are showing their kids are preselected, sensible shows. The fight to cut back on social media will be a tough one, but in the end it is worth the…

Fifty years ago technology was undeveloped and not a large part of people’s lives like it is today. Now you find children in front of a television for an excessive amount of time, which is affecting them in multiple ways. While such a large amount of time is spent in front of the television, it is causing them to become passive and have a difficult time comprehending things. Bly states another effect of the television, “Television provides an garbage dump of obsessive sexual material inappropriate to the child’s age, minute descriptions of brutalities, wars, and tortures all over the world: an avalanche of specialized information that stunts the brain” (22). Adolescents have dismissed their culture to only concern themselves with what is in the media.…

It's been argued whether or not screen time can be detrimental to a child's development in large amounts. I believe that children should only be exposed to screens for 1-2 hours a day, and for educational purposes. Kids can't be as social if they're constantly glued to a video game or tv. That being said, there can be some upsides to having access to media for your children. Kids shouldn't be exposed to tv or video game screens for large parts of the day.…

I believe that children of any age should be restricted on screen time due to their need for developmental, emotional, and physical growth. Studies show that pre schoolers who watch television lower their ability to complete a given task. These children can also recieve lower test scores later in their educational career. I also believe that screen time can become an addiction which causes children not to be able to put down a device. Between 2011-2013 children 8 and under have doubled their screen usage.…

Although research has indicated that the affects of the media have damaged children in numerous ways, some argue that the media has actually enhanced the way children learn and socialize. Television channels such as PBS and Discovery have argued that they have provided education and valuable lessons for young children. An ABC News article titled, TV can Improve Kids Behavior, is in defense of the media being a positive influence for children. Dr. Christakis, a director of Child Health, has argued that children often imitate or mimic other resulting in learning. He says that, "children imitate what they see on screen.…

My claim on the issue is, I believe that regardless of the bad influence that reality tv shows like “Bad Girls Club”, little children and young adults are still going to watch it. It’s a lot of action and drama that it shows. Even though it’s some good shows like Hell’s kitchen with children under the age of 15 on their cooking, It’s still some children that will not watch it due to the fact that it’s a cooking show. Some children would rather watch the bad influenced shows.…

Many parents are complaining that the violence in video games and in music are the reason this generation of gamers are becoming more violent and more aggressive. In reality, it is the parent 's responsibility to monitor and watch their child, a lot of people tend to let their child sit and play a game for hours at a time. Parents are using media, television, and video games kind of as a babysitter, as long as they are quiet and out of there way it is ok. It is not acceptable to put the blame on the creators of these video games or producers of these shows as they are just trying to earn a buck, this issue falls back on the parenting. Although I can see that these games can be very graphic and gory, parents should observe what their kids are playing or what they are watching, because it is their responsibility.…

I will be giving a few reasons why parents should limit the time their child spends on their electronic devices.
