If someone-while driving a car-makes bad decisions, is the driver's license to blame? No. If a teen has a fatal accident, does another teen that was not involved have their license suspended? Of course not, but those who think the driving age should be raised, are convinced that a person's age is relevant to this. Those who think this are basing their opinion on teens who have made bad decisions while behind the wheel of a car. They are labeling all teens before any teen drives or has an accident. They believe that due to one's birth date, teens are by definition “dangerous” (Lund). Teens work, go to school, they go to sport or band practices, or they hang out with their friends (Lund). As a teen matures and their schooling becomes harder due to college, driving becomes essential. Teens do not have time to learn how to drive in college. Why some might ask? To obtain a driver's license one needs a minimum of 40 hours behind the wheel and 10 hours at night to make a total of 50 hours (“Behind”). No parent or student has time for these supervised hours while going to school and work. Sixteen is the age where teens can get their first part time job which creates an erratic schedule. A teen may obtain a job that requires driving such as delivering: UPS, Papa John's, or FedEx. Raising the driving age would be denying teens these jobs. It would be difficult for the parents to maintain their own schedule and that of the teens’. However, if the age remains the same, teens will still have the opportunity to learn how to drive. Teens can gain experience at the age of 15 with their permit and then get their license at 16. This then allows them to learn how to handle their busy schedule, consisting of a job and school activities while still being able to have a social life, without being a burden on their
