Sidi is a determined being with faults. Sidi is a young beautiful lady. Sidi`s appearance is simple yet very attractive. She is a “slim girl with plaited her”(Soyinka 3) , with “velvet skin” (Soyinka 21). She does not put much effort in her looks but nevertheless she still looks pretty. Wole Soyinka describes her as “A true village belle”(Soyinka 3).She brags about the texture of her skin to Lakunle and Sadiku (an old woman who is also the first wife to Baroka). Her beauty makes Sidi has an influence on her character as it gives her an exaggerated sense of self-importance. When she is offered the chance for her photograph to be on the front cover of a popular magazine, she turns into a very vain person and describes herself in hyperbolic terms such as “… beauty beyond the dreams of a goddess”(Soyinka 11). She further states “Hurray! I`m beautiful” (Soyinka 13), “My name is Sidi, and I am beautiful” (Soyinka 20) The depth of Sidi`s pride about her beauty is stressed by her repeatedly telling people that she is beautiful.
