The Greeks focused on the idea of justice. In a written dialogue between Socrates and Polemarchus taken from Plato’s Republic, it was concluded that justice was directly related to human excellence. Plato stated that justice was a soul’s virtue; therefore, justice enabled the soul to perform well. In contrast, the Confucianism was built upon three foundations: heaven, earth, and humankind. If an individual’s life was based upon these three foundations then they were likely to become a worthy ruler or enlightened master. These foundations encouraged Confucians to practice humility, while resembling sons, brothers, fathers, and mothers; all parts of the five key relationships in Confucian culture. Confucians became examples for others, because of the humble and reverent life they led.
