Paranoid Schizophrenia, Chronic Type is a common diagnosis among patients residing on the program. Many of the patients served on this program have been diagnosed with personality disorders. These can include antisocial personality disorder and borderline personality disorders. Most patients served on the program have substance abuse issues. Some patient’s psychosis is substance abuse induced. The most severe illnesses have usually been caused by inhalant abuse. Our purpose is to provide appropriate psychiatric care and to teach skills toward achievement of competency to stand trial or transfer to a less restrictive environment (Patient Handbook, 2008, p.1). The Social Learning Rehabilitation Program provides many services to their unique population. The services have been grouped into three categories, which are daily living services, therapeutic services and medication services. All staff that work at North Texas State Hospital, Vernon Campus must be eighteen years or older and must attend a month of orientation in order to work behind the fence. Orientation includes a wide range of information needed in order to work in the hospital
