In the article, Gender Oppression, the author says, “ Gendered oppression is the systemic manner in which certain groups are privileged or disadvantaged because of their gender. Because gender is such an integral part of society, we may unconsciously subscribe to harmful and inaccurate gender stereotypes” (“Gender Oppression”). This quote from Feminists @ MIT website talks about how your gender affects certain people’s rights and or disadvantages. This quote also talks about how gender is a big part of society that many people will emotionally hurt each other and talk about many gender stereotypes that are not relevant. This quote relates to the thesis because it shows us how gender is an effect on oppression. Also because this quote explains to us in the what ways gender affects oppression as well. The second quote that supports the claim is from the article Brief History of Female Gender Roles. In this article, it says, ”Men are the heads of the household; women are dependent on the men. Women are expected to marry, produce heirs, and over see the the household” (Brief History of Female Roles). This quote from the article Brief History of Female Gender Roles is basically describing roles based on gender. This shows us that the man is the most dominant and tough person as to the women her job is just to stay home and take care of her family and husband. In the article, The Oppressed Majority, Amy Muldoon writes, "The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles...Freeman and slave, patrician and plebeian, lord and serf, guild-master and journeyman, in a word, oppressor and oppressed, stood in constant opposition to one another, carried on an uninterrupted, now hidden, now open fight, a fight that each time ended, either in a revolutionary reconstitution of society at large, or in the common ruin of the contending classes" (Muldoon). This quote explains the struggles of classes and colored race; for example, slavery and freeman are a few struggles. This quote also explains how people reacted to their struggles and what events went on. This quote relates back to the thesis because it shows the struggles that a certain class and race had to go through. Also because from the quote you see that not all classes and races were treated equally some better than others.The second supporting detail as to class being an affect on oppression is the article The Telegraph. The author, Kuroshima Denji, wrote, “ The village head hates the very idea of poor folks sending their children to the town school…” (Denji 19). This quote from The Telegraph explains to the audience that if you were poor you did not look as or expected to be going to school because it was expensive for your family and they could not afford to do so.
