When the ways of another culture fail to correlate with the dominant culture, usually it is the dominant culture that gets regarded at higher esteem. For example, many people from Latin culture view cock fighting as an acceptable activity. In the various places Latin culture has integrated within the United States, the praise for the positive aspect of foreign culture is overshadowed by the criticisms. Family is seen as an integral part of Latin culture, yet more focus is put on things like cock fighting because it goes against the taboo of animal cruelty in the United States. Rather than trying to understand why the culture participates in such activates, people choose instead to apply stigma to the culture and in turn all of the people associated with the culture become stigmatized as well. There is a fair amount of ignorance present when condemning people of Latin culture for this, especially considering the long history that the activity has within the culture. The longer traditions are passed down, the more likely future generations are going to see it as something normal, rather than abnormal.
