A formative evaluation will need to take place prior to implementing the program to evaluate the current nutrition habits of the softball team, specifically targeting their fast food or takeout intake, recovery nutrition habits, fat intake, and current nutritional knowledge to align with our program goals. We will do this through an anonymous survey to ensure the participants answer with honesty and the evaluation prior to program implementation is accurate.
A process evaluation will also take place throughout the program to assess its effectiveness before the duration of the program is completed. The same survey would be handed out to the team, this being the third time, but with a few additions. Giving the members of the team and program the chance to comment on likes, dislikes, effectiveness, impact, etc. would be beneficial for the improvement of the program so we would do that at the end of the survey, still anonymously. This program relies heavily on the registered dietitian and the impact he/she has on the athletes. If the RD doesn’t develop a trusting an open relationship with each of the participants it will be challenging for them to make meaningful and lasting changes in their recovery nutrition habits. The program itself might be successful, but if we do not have the right RD it could impact the program severely, for the worse.
