In the novel the “Song of Solomon,” Milkman desires to learn about his past. Milkman is able to do this by connecting with his heritage through Solomon’s song that; he learns from his journey. By going on a journey Milkman he is able to obtain information about Solomon. Milkman undergoes a transformation; realizing that family is important. Milkman learns about the song about his great grandfather. By doing this Milkman learns the folk song about his great grandfather Jake, who was left behind by Solomon.
