Spotlight Boston Globe

The Spotlight team at the Boston Globe was able to publicize a 30 year history of the Catholic Church covering up to not deal with the repercussions and refusing to put a stop to the massive child abuse problem occurring by the priest. In order to do this, the team had to work countless hours to remain focus on the “big picture” to gather the information and inform the public about this extremely important matter that would become one of the biggest scandals in history. The team had to go out of their comfort zone and seek creative ways to find the truth. The team began to reach out to the churches and also reached out to a support group of victims abused by priest. An example of this was in the movie, the team spoke to the person in charge of the support group, Phil. Phil was able to give the team material that could be used for the investigation. He was able to give the team a list of a few victims willing to be interviewed regarding this. By getting those victims to speak up, they were also able to discover 13 names of some of the priest that did the abuse to them. The movie showed an example of a phone call the Spotlight team had with a man that had been investigating this for may years. In the movie Robby close friend Jim is a lawyer for the Catholic Church and multiple times he tells Robby to stop investigating and to leave it alone. The team had a difficult time speaking to lawyers and getting the proof of the justice system of the documents that proved the small settlement of the victim’s to not speak up about it. An example of this can be seen in the movie when Mike was trying to get to the Lawyer Mitchell.
