Benjamin Franklin used his skill as a printer and writer to enter the newspaper business and also issue annual volumes of Poor Richard’s Almanack. The businesses both brought in much more revenue than other newspapers of the time and was able to retire at the age of 42 with a “comfortable income from the businesses for more than 20 years” (Encyclopedia of World Biography). Franklin used his skill and love for writing to attack a growing industry to leave more to his legacy in not only America, but in England as well. Steve Jobs did the same by attacking the growing computer industry. The industry was still small when Jobs and Wozniak took over the industry with their products. Their success did not start as quickly as Franklin’s, but when it did, other companies couldn’t keep up with Apple’s continuously improving products. Benjamin Franklin was completely denied a formal education due to his family’s finances. Also, according to Encyclopedia of World Biography, he also ruined his relationship with one of his brothers after getting his brother put in jail in England and taking over his business. Still, Franklin moved forward “extolling hard work, thriftiness, and honesty as the poor man 's means for escaping the prison of want” (Encyclopedia of World Biography). Jobs also had his own issues. He was forced out of Apple, the company he helped start, in 1985. That did not stop Jobs as he “bounced back and began anew” (Encyclopedia of World Biography). Jobs founded NeXT Computers and continued in the industry until Apple bought NeXT and Jobs became CEO once again.
