“The Noose”: The second chapter all men have to go get their race classified and receive a certificate stating which race they are. All coloreds are forced to move and reloca Whites, coloreds and africans were not contact each other. A man is walking through the streets and brought in by the police and asked to show his certificate. Lily’s father was helping Africans in their resistance against apartheid. Since he was helping the native Africans he was arrested twice and listed as a communist. This created much tension between the mother of Caroline and the rest of her family.
“The Typewriter”: A girl named Esther made a leaflet and handed it out to other children at school which told parent workers and students not to go to school or work due to the discrimination against black individuals. She typed this on a typewriter which if the police find, will cause Esther to go to jail.
