For this project I analyzed one of my good friend’s sister to read “What’s on Your Pizza?” The girl’s name is Alexandra Wheeler and she is 11 years old. She is in 5th grade and is the middle child of 7 children. She loves playing sports such soccer and running track. She is also a part of a program called “Lions pride,” where kids, who are quite intelligent, teach other kids, who may struggle in school, how to problem solve.…
The History of the Franks and Lais of Marie de France’s were both written in the Middle Ages of Christian Europe. Gregory of Tours writings is the principal source for the history of Frankish kings. He also chronicles the Franks’ intimate lives, such as their polygamous marriages. Lais of Marie de Frances are a collection of narrative poems that deifies love while at the same time having a pessimistic outlook. The History of the Franks and Marie de France both do not conform to Christian notions of gender relations, love, and marriage.…
1. The narrator describes Helen’s behavior as being very ‘natural’ and her “heart is too full of selfishness and affection to allow a dream of fear or unkindness” (268). 2. Through her disability, Helen learned differently from other children. The narrator suggests “she has one advantage over ordinary children, that nothing from without distracts her attention from her studies” (274).…
Kassidy Bollman is the student who I have had the pleasure of working with over the past several weeks. Kassidy and her twin sister, Hailey, are 7 years old. She is a fan of, anything pink, chicken noodle soup, reading, and the movie Frozen. During this time that I spent with Kassidy, I found that she added personality to the stories that she read aloud. When I asked Kassidy how she felt about reading she said that she enjoys reading.…
Some of the goals that Frances had were to improve the worldly society by providing alternative models of society. Frances believed that by providing a role model of what better society could be that the rest of society would follow along morally. Frances Wright founded the short-lived Nashoba community in Tennessee during 1825. Main goals for Frances included attempting to implement Owenite ideals, including cooperative labor and sexual liberty in her plan towards the gradual emancipation of slaves at the time. Frances fought so that the government would offer free education, and was a strong believer in public education for children that were two years and older.…
All humans have that possession or person that comforts them and carries them through times of crisis and conflict. This something or someone can be life changing in situations that tear people apart. This treasure could be anything from an old dusty book to a significant other. If that prized possession was absent, the individual would be destroyed without it. People rely on their precious commodities to get them through the stressful periods that life throws at them.…
Art and literature are the foundation of life. Long before Netflix and social media existed, people used books to entertain themselves. Mason Cooley said “reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are”. Even in 21st century, the age of technology, people use books as a source of entertainment and writing as a form of self-expression. Books and reading in general has many benefits like mental stimulation, gaining knowledge and much more.…

The success in the New World by the Spanish attracted and inspired the attention of France. France was also a Catholic nation, and disguised its desire for riches with a committed to expanding Catholicism to the indigenous people of the New World. Driven with wanderlust and greed France joined the race to explore the New World, which resulted in the exploitation and trade of the natural resources that were abundant in the New World. The French primary focus was to establish trading posts, and take advantage of all the European countries sending unprepared and needy men to the New World, with the hopes of creating trading networks throughout the Americas.…
Theories 1.2 Looking at theory of child development I have chosen to discuss Bowlby attachment theory and Rutter’s theory. Bowlby said that a child will suffer from maternal depravation if the child doesn’t experience a warm loving relationship with a mother or mother figure. When a child’s attachment is disrupted they do not develop healthy personalities. He said the need to form attachments are innate. Bowlby also said that the effects of separation can be seen from around the age of 5-6 months the child will experience distress and anxiety.…
When I was a little girl I use to hate reading, it’s not that it was hard I just didn’t want to take the time to read and build up my knowledge. I was the opposite child in school all the kids could read the small basic words and not the hard big words; as for me I was the opposite I could read the hard big words and not the small basic words. As I grew up I started liking reading more, then I had gotten to Chase middle I did so much reading that when I read a good book I couldn’t put it down I had to read it until the end. My freshmen year I had learned how to do N.E.R.D. words and it was the first time I had ever done it and it was hard for me to get the concept of it but I finally got it.…
I attended Pi Beta Phi Elementary School from kindergarten through eighth grade. Through my time there, I learned many things which still influence my life today. My experiences during my nine years as a mountaineer influenced my knowledge, gratitude for my surroundings, and my appreciating for the people in my life. As a kindergartener, Mrs. Kathy taught me how to read, and as a sixth grader, I took AR tests in Mrs. Smith’s class over the entire Harry Potter series.…
Growing up my mom never had a big enjoyment of book or reading, unless it…
As a slight cripple, she shies away from the world, hiding among glass unicorns and other figurines, and listening to her phonograph records. The real world unnerves her, deeming her unable to even handle typing class at Rubicam’s Business College. She couldn’t even type from nerves, her hands jittering across the keys. And when she tried to take her speed typing test, she vomited on the floor, and almost had to be carried to the washroom. While she was supposed to be in class, Laura simply wandered through parks and visited animals at the zoo, or the local conservatory, slipping even further from reality.…
The land we live on, known as the Americas was home to an abundant amount of societies that were diverse in language and social structure before colonization, war, and disease had set its course. According to the text Give me Liberty in the year of 1492 when Christopher Columbus had ventured out making contact with the West Indian Islands is when a motion was set, causing harsh impacts on the development of history. The Americas came to be the way they are due to some of the power countries that made significant moves during that time. Spain is one such country to have made impact, and France is another. Both countries colonized indigenous people, and converted them to Catholicism.…
