The most challenging leadership role I have undertaken is being President of the Sutherland Cancer Awareness Club. This is my first year as President and the Club has created a goal of raising $2,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society. I think this is achievable but will require a large amount of effort from each of the club's 55 members. The main difficulty is two-way communication with some members, particularly the younger students who are new to responsibility and don't always fulfil their commitments. I try to be a patient mentor and highlight the importance of persistent and consistent effort in achieving our goal.…

Many people believe that leadership is simply being the first, biggest or most powerful. A leader is someone who sets direction in an effort or task and influences or motivates people to follow that direction. A leader is someone who people feel comfortable approaching, who is kind and welcoming to everyone's issues and concerns. They are intelligent, trustworthy, and most importantly level headed in times of stress. A leader is not forced into the position, the look for it and seek to become it.…

I can still remember the day when my parents told me the phrase, “You are a leader, not a follower.” It was in kindergarden right after I told them about a few girls who were making fun of a friend of fine, and I decided to stop them and defend her. When my parents told me that phrase, it definitely stuck with me throughout my life. I think that’s a phase most kids hear time to time in their childhood. When I was in my middle school years, the nickname of Star Super emerged from the high school football team. The origin behind said nickname came from the captain; who was referred to as Super Star. The reasoning behind why I was given this nickname was never known, but I do have a couple of ideas. My first idea was that he was my role model, so I would try to copy anything and everything he did. Whether it was my attempts to copy his on- field play, his leadership, or even his humor, I tried to be just like him.…
