When teachers give out work, usually students don’t want to do it. The answer as to why is because students want work that connects to their lives. Something that’s rationale and relatable. According to the article “What keep students Motivated to succeed?” by Katrina Schwartz, Gibran Huerta a junior says that, “ he was adamant that learning how to connect a topic to oneself is the key to learning (11).” Gibran is true, in order for a student to learn is by connecting the work given out to situations that happens in their life.
The work is one subject but also how teachers evaluate the work. The answer why is because students want work that connects to their lives. It states, “ When evaluating student work, frame feedback in terms of the learner’s goal instead of referring to the standards
(Schwartz 20).” It’s not just the work but the way it’s evaluated too. If students worked hard on the project they hope that it just won’t be referred to the standards.
