“To consider providing animals with rights would be a perilous road for humanity” (Carlin). There is no need for animals to have rights because they are already protected under some laws, specifically in America. ”The Animal Welfare Act was signed into law in 1966. It is the only Federal law in the United States that regulates the treatment of animals in research, exhibition, transport, and by dealers” (Animal Welfare Act). People who are rights activists want them to protect animals but technically, they are protected under laws already such as this one. Some people feels as if animal rights are used to attack some religious beliefs. Many people who are religious believe humans are made in the image of God and by saying humans and animals are very similar is taking away the idea of God. The biological makeup of everything should not be the determining factors of whether they deserve rights or not. Hitler was an example of a person who used biological make up to defend his actions. This is proof that the biological similarities between humans and animals should not make them deserve rights. (Carlin) Rights are given to protect morals not just beings themselves. Their rights could cause a negative effect on humanity. By giving animals rights, there would be a decrease in respect for humanity and an attack on religion. …show more content…
The main reason is because animals are biologically different from humans. For example, a mouse can produce Vitamin C on it’s own, they have no gall bladder, and can not throw up, therefore, they should not be one of the most commonly used animals for testing products. There are many cases in which there are various studies showing the effect of a certain cancer but then it does not cause cancer in an animal when tested. This is due to them having a different anatomy and makeup. As everyone learns growing up, everyone reacts differently to various chemicals. There are many factors that need to be taken into account including sex, age, stress level, and species. These factors can easily shift the results enough for them to become inaccurate. Most of the time, it is hard to tell where the symptoms displayed by the animal are coming from because they are not protected from everything surrounding them. When the animals are being tested on, the scientists use unrealistic amounts of the product on them. If the animals are given too high of doses, which happens frequently, the results can be altered and not be true to what is being tested. The exposure method is also a factor that may skew the results. For example, inhaling a chemical can cause different reactions than drinking or eating the chemical. Overall, the test results have too many influencing factors to really be reliable enough to find
