They decide to stay in the cabin because there was nothing in the city that would convince them to go back.

At this point, JT didn’t know what to think of the damage he had just observed, but decided to continue into the house. He noticed that the inside was just as bad as the outside. Chairs were sprawled in the dining room and pots and pans were littered along the kitchen floor. One thing he did notice, however, was the fact the refrigerator and pantry were in perfect condition. He knew that a bear would have demolished all the food in the house, but this was not the case. JT began second guessing himself even more. What troubled him the most was the fact that the Allisons’s were not even at the cabin when he entered. By policy, all people who stay on site at the park have to check in regularly with the Park Operations Office. Based on the record sheet, the Allisons’s should’ve been there when JT entered and their truck was still parked in front of their cabin. JT decided to investigate in more depth than what he planned. He examined the kitchen even further, and noticed something out of the ordinary: an untouched picture hanging on the wall. As he focused harder on the picture, he noticed it was the year’s calendar. He didn’t think much of it until he noticed that every day, after Labor Day, was crossed out
