Summary: The Definition Of Heroism

Improved Essays
The Definition of Heroism Heroism is a valued trait, but is often difficult to define. Heroism involves a behavior done on behalf of another person. It is a voluntary act that is typically performed to help someone in need and usually involves some type of risk. A true hero does not react with the intent to gain something in return. There is not a hero gene that people are born with. Heroes share many personality traits, such as the need to live by a moral code. Cipriano (2014) noted that “many times, a hero does not understand why they are being exalted merely for doing what they believed and thought was correct and right” (p. 1). Heroism can be described as a person of distinguished courage and ability who is easily admired by others.
