He tells his king all about what happened back in the Danes, how he slaughtered Grendel and his mother ending the terror that the Danes had been encountering for 12 years until Beowulf heard all about it and ended it. As time passed Beowulf had been ruling as king of the Geats for 50 years. He had not encountered any more monsters like Grendel and his father until now. A dragon had been awaken from its slumber when a slave had some ended up in his underground lair where the dragon guarded his treasure. The slave stole from it and that is why he began to terrorize the land of the Geats. Beowulf takes his 12 warriors and the slave to lead the way into the dragon 's lair. When they arrived Beowulf made his way into battle against the dragon with his men, but he orders his men to stay outside and wait for him. As the fight with the dragon got tougher for Beowulf to fight by himself. His men saw that not even the great Beowulf could beat this beast they ran away into hideout and left him alone to fight. The dragon managed to get a bite on Beowulf and now he was poisoned. Wiglaf, Beowulf’s cousin and one of his warriors was the only one to stay and fight along his side. Wiglaf with his sword managed to stab the dragon on its flank and then Beowulf got the chance to stab it in the heart with his sword. Finally another battle that Beowulf had won but this time he got some help. Beowulf was old but still glorious, his life was about to end and he knew that before he stepped a foot in this battle. He knew what was awaiting him. Unfortunately Beowulf soon died because of the poison in his body. His people were devastated about his death but
