The context of The Sykes GPA Model was created for all student-athletes that competes at a Division I, II, or III level. This model has be structured to fit the needs of any sport and to any student athlete. The inspiration of this model came from the student athletes, such as myself, here at Syracuse University who have trouble building their GPA. As of right now the only sports that maintain a credible team GPA are Tennis, Mens Rowing, Men and Women’s Cross Country, and a few others. This model was designed to increase the teams such as Men’s and Women’s basketball, Football, and Men and Women’s Lacrosse. This model will not only save student-athletes GPAs but build them as well.
Purpose
The purpose of this model is to increase the pro activeness of the student-athletes along with their staff to better prepare them for future endeavors they will face. In addition, The Sykes GPA model purpose is also to increase awareness in certain areas of work student-athletes may need help one. This model allows academic personnel to understand their athletes better as students. The model can be used for any team and sport, being that the competition is at a Division I, II, or III. On academic stand, academic coordinators will need to keep constant contact with coaches, professors, tutors, and the student athletes. In return the coaches, professors, tutors, and student athletes will need to be in contact with the academic coordinator. Weekly reports and thorough communication will allow the model and process to run smoothly and efficiently. The academic coordinators will be able to access and check in on student athletes grades to move onto the later steps of the model. Their role in this model becomes very key in improving student-athletes GPAs, as they work directly with them throughout the entire
