“In her wealth social status and beauty, she symbolizes the golden girl embodiment of the American dream” (LaHood). The author is showing how “The Golden Girl” Judy Jones is like the American dream because of wealth and the challenge to reach it. The author is suggesting that her social status and beauty is above everyone else, and is what everyone wants but cannot have. “My god, she’s good looking!” said Mr. Sandwood, who was just over thirty. “Good looking!” cried Mr. Hedrick contemptuously, “She always looks like she wanted to be kissed. Turing those cow eyes on every calf in town” said Mr. Sandwood (Fitzgerald). Fitzgerald is expressing the idea of the American dream, how everyone wants it but cannot always achieve it. Everyone talks about how good-looking Judy Jones is to show their desire to obtain the American dream. Dexter Green’s dream of achieving Judy becomes dead after he realizes he could never achieve the “Golden girl.” Fitzgerald is explaining how people try and reach for the American dream, but do not always succeed into achieving it. Scott Fitzgerald in “Winter Dreams” illustrates a unique style of how the story is written. The story is broken up in six sections. The story is a tragedy which creates a sense of an emotional feeling. “The style in which these tragedies are told is one of the most famous in American literature: A brilliant, sensuous, lyrical prose that recreates a sense of emotional ecstasy (Witkoski). The author is trying to explain that the way “Winter Dreams” is written gives the feeling of an emotional connection to the main character of the story. In this case Dexter Green who experiences many emotional events. “The dream was gone. Something had been taken from him. In a sort of panic, he pushed the palms of his hands into his eyes and tried to bring up a picture of the waters lapping on Sherry Island and the moonlit veranda, and the gingham on the golf-links and the dry sun and the gold color of her neck’s soft down (Fitzgerald). This shows the unique style the author uses to give the reader an emotional connection to the protagonist of the story. It makes the reader feel the emotions that the main character is facing even though they are not always good
