After participating in Date Auction and attending other VSA events such as VSOUL's potluck and UNO VSA's paper lantern night, I am motivated in connecting with and learning more about other VSA's in the Gulf Coast, and actively participating in creating a community between each VSA. The best part about being in TUVA is the amount of doors that have opened from meeting the vast Vietnamese community that exists in Louisiana alone. I envision TUVA to grow in the VSA communities in Louisiana by encouraging general members to step out of the Tulane bubble and participate in the numerous events held by VSA. I was unsure of what to expect going in, but I honestly loved it. While EVP focuses on the outside activities for TUVA, IVP hones in more of how can TUVA be better represented. What are possible co-programming opportunities? How can TUVA better interact with its Tulane population? If I was IVP, I would love to not only join other Asian culture clubs, but also find ways to promote and support the other minorities on campus. Sitting in on the MCC meeting made me realize that the minorities on campus are disadvantaged by number, especially in funding. As an IVP, I believe that I can effectively voice the concerns of TUVA, find ways to incorporate more of a cmomunity between the MCC clubs, and create strong community ties within TUVA itself. In addition, I believe the work of an IVP should include ways on how to educate the Tulane population about Vietnamese culture, which means continuously improving Tet and meetings. I also believe topics such as what is it likes to be Vietnamese American are important to discussions to have, because the majority of Tulanians do not understand Vietnamese culture. I believe TUVA can definitely become a mentoring,safe space for not only Vietnamese student but also other minorities to find family and a place of belonging, because feeling lost is quite easy, especially among freshman.
