TUVA Motivation Report

After participating in Date Auction and attending other VSA events such as VSOUL's potluck and UNO VSA's paper lantern night, I am motivated in connecting with and learning more about other VSA's in the Gulf Coast, and actively participating in creating a community between each VSA. The best part about being in TUVA is the amount of doors that have opened from meeting the vast Vietnamese community that exists in Louisiana alone. I envision TUVA to grow in the VSA communities in Louisiana by encouraging general members to step out of the Tulane bubble and participate in the numerous events held by VSA. I believe TUVA's presence should continue to cultivate, which means E-board members and general members should create connections with other …show more content…
I was unsure of what to expect going in, but I honestly loved it. While EVP focuses on the outside activities for TUVA, IVP hones in more of how can TUVA be better represented. What are possible co-programming opportunities? How can TUVA better interact with its Tulane population? If I was IVP, I would love to not only join other Asian culture clubs, but also find ways to promote and support the other minorities on campus. Sitting in on the MCC meeting made me realize that the minorities on campus are disadvantaged by number, especially in funding. As an IVP, I believe that I can effectively voice the concerns of TUVA, find ways to incorporate more of a cmomunity between the MCC clubs, and create strong community ties within TUVA itself. In addition, I believe the work of an IVP should include ways on how to educate the Tulane population about Vietnamese culture, which means continuously improving Tet and meetings. I also believe topics such as what is it likes to be Vietnamese American are important to discussions to have, because the majority of Tulanians do not understand Vietnamese culture. I believe TUVA can definitely become a mentoring, safe space for not only Vietnamese student but also other minorities to find family and a place of belonging, because feeling lost is quite easy, especially among freshman. I am also quite interested in learning more about MCC and the roles minority, culture clubs play at Tulane, because I do not entirely understand how Tulane's administration interacts or treats its

The hospital executives would have been aware of the growing Hmong culture and the necessity to educate a staff group to be familiar with and capable of communicating in a positive way. This failure should be placed squarely on the shoulders of the executives in tier three for ignoring the need though it was known. The implementation should have been place and filtered down the tiers. The healthcare team at MCMC lacked authentic leadership.…

Wake Technical Community College is the largest community college in North Carolina. Enrollment reached a record high of 22,000 students for the fall, 2014 (The News & Observer, 2014). One experience that shaped my character as a person was my part-time job in high school. I worked as tour guide in San Francisco’s Chinatown. Being a tour guide pushes a person to be open minded and curious about other people. I remember having a tour group from New York City, and we had a great conversation when we were comparing our respective Chinatowns. The conversation had me continuously think of questions and reply to their question with an answer to the best of my ability.…

When I was first introduced to Lambda Theta Phi Latino Fraternity Inc., certain aspects of the organization caught my attention. First and foremost, the organization promotes unity within the Latino community. Being united as Latinos is essential because together we acquire great accomplishments for the betterment of the community as well as ourselves. Moreover, being united provides the opportunity to demonstrate our capabilities as Latinos and break the barriers society has imposed upon us. For me, being able to interact with Latinos at UNCG, through this organization, and having the opportunity to meet individuals who demonstrate valuable character is of great importance.…

By being a well-rounded student through my diverse involvements at Xavier, I inspire others to get out of their comfort zone and branch out and try new things. As a freshman from Nairobi, Kenya, I experienced culture shock which made me isolate myself from the Xavier community since adjusting to a new environment, weather, education system, food, and culture was difficult for me. As soon as I decided to get involved in my second semester at Xavier, I began getting the full Xavier experience that is always advertised as I formed relationships with people who would later positively impact my life. My decision to get involved has opened my eyes to many opportunities and has led me to win prestigious scholarship awards at Xavier such as the 2016 Antonio Johnson scholarship and receive the 2016 Diversity and Inclusion recognition award for my efforts to create a campus culture of diversity and inclusion.…

In Richard Lavoies the Motivation Breakthrough: 6 Secrets to Turning on the tuned-out child proves techniques and strategies based on six possible motivational styles that will revolutionize the way parents and teachers inspire kids with learning disabilities to succeed and achieve. It promotes better communication, improvement through goals, and respect of the student. It provides an idea rather than the reward system. I think the value of this book lies in teaching people that what motivates them does not necessarily motivate their kids or any other person for that matter. That some information provided for parents should be read by the teachers and some provided with practical information only for teachers to use in their classrooms should…

I think I am a strong candidate for this program because I have always been involved in several activities in order to expand my personal growth and knowledge. Here at Penn State, I am a member of the Anthropology Club and treasurer of the Sophomore Year Experience Special Living Option. Sophomore Year Experience is in the process of being developed into an officially recognized organization here at the main campus. My fellow executive board members and committee members are developing activities, classes, and programs to involve sophomores in finding more information about majors, internships, and future career plans. These organizations have given me the opportunity to develop leadership roles and communication skills as these are necessary…

After a long year, I finally was back at La Semana, a week long adoption camp for kids from Latin American countries. After the joyous reunion hugs and hellos, I headed off to my classroom that I would be helping in. Glancing out the window I instantly knew that it was one of those picture perfect days. The sun already shining, and a cool breeze just strong enough to lightly brush through my hair. Back in the classroom however, the temperature was not so pleasant.…

The peer leading program is undeniably one of the most selective programs at Masco in order to have a solid group of students who are hardworking and committed to improving and keeping up the spirits of our school, and I know I would fit right into this group. I really enjoyed the way Mr.Delani described the program as a way to keep our enormous student body as a close-knit community. Peer leaders do a lot of good in the school by providing underclassmen with a role model whom they can reach out to with questions or concerns about navigating through their first year of highschool. Being that person for a group of freshmen would mean a lot to me because I want to help them reach their full potential in high school. I know, from experience, how…

Almost every Saturday morning when I was in elementary school, my mother would wake me up for breakfast which usually consisted of cinnamon toast and cereal, I would get dressed in my favorite purple outfit, and pack. I would fill my small book bag with Barbie dolls, coloring books, and the whatever I was reading for school. Before leaving, my mother would make sure to stop by the gas station for snacks and to fill up on gas. We were going on a trip! We were headed to my grandparents’ house forty-five minutes away in Pascagoula, Mississippi; however, it felt like we had to drive for a full day.…
