Liesel and her family took a very dangerous risk by, Hiding a Jewish man, Max Vandenburg, in their basement. Even though this was a very dangerous task, it was the only way to keep Max safe. Getting caught would be a terrible consequence because their family could get separated, or even worse, killed and that puts Max in dangerous also. Keeping the secret is hard, it could change your personality. When something that comes up reminds you of the secret, it could give it away.
Taking risks have huge impacts on peoples lives. They could change a person because if they have a big consequence then their most likely to remember what happened to them.
