Although the article informs that race and ethnicity plays a big role in terminal prognosis, the situation goes far beyond mere race and ethnicity beliefs. Whether they are Korean or Mexican American, white or black, the human body and its state belongs to the patient and one should have every right to know the situation that their body is in; furthermore, be able to make informed decisions about their medical care. Being informed of the seriousness of a patient’s illness can prevent a lot of complications. For example, a patient that is going to die soon, but shows no sign of symptoms that hints death and is not relayed any information of the seriousness, will be overjoyed that they are going to be okay and will not take extra measures in recovery, only to be met with the ugly truth in the end. That being said, with knowledge early on, the patient has time and a chance to strive for recovery instead of having false hope and eventually losing everything.
