Textual Analysis Of Conga

Decent Essays
Out of the countless amounts of music that were listened to during the 80s, I enjoyed listening and watching the music videos, Conga, sung by Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine, and La Bamba, by Ritchie Valens. To illustrate, Conga was an upbeat, fast-paced, and catchy song. Additionally, the lyrics were simple, yet fun. Not to mention, the music video was very colorful, creative, and artistic. Using show girls, the music video reminded me of Las Vegas showgirls. Also, I loved how they used instruments such as the drum, guitar, trumpet, and piano to enchant the rhythm of the song. Likewise, the lyric and story of the music video were nice and straightforward. Similarity, Ritchie Valens’s La Bamba was another song that caught my attention.

In 1976, the Swedish group ABBA ravished the world with their hit song “Dancing Queen.” Even after 30 years since its exposition at King Carl Gustaf’s ball, the song remains a favorite in dance clubs. Mixed with pop-operatic harmonies and inspiration to the dance rhythm in George McCrae's "Rock Your Baby," as well as the drumming on Dr. John's 1972 album “Dr. John's Gumbo”, ABBA is able to convey an elated feeling of limitless joy and highlights the greatest music of the disco era. Through a beautifully woven blend of uplifting, empowering lyrics and a sophisticated melody scattered with heart-tugging high notes, “Dancing Queen” celebrates the carefree innocence of youth.…

I appreciated the effort and music the mariachi group gave in their performance. I noticed how the trumpet usually took the main role while the violins supported the trumpets voice, usually by pizzicato. The guitar and guitarrón were mainly the background music that played the same rhythm over and over. It made me realize the beauty of…

From the very first song, I was surprised how much I enjoyed the performance despite me not knowing the genre very well. The first song, “Darlin’ Corey”, instantly caught my attention especially from the ‘bright’ banjo picking. The next song, ‘Freight Train’, was a completely different which had a more somber tone. In the beginning, it started very eerie-like until the banjo came in to brighten up the overall tone of the song. One of the notable moments of the whole concert was during the “In the Pines” in the first set, where the ensemble highlights the unlikely instrument, the French Horn.…

They performed la cumparsita famous tango music for next. Especially two dancers danced tango, were cheesy and for me little awkward to see. Their dance was gorgeous I could guess they are real couple. Because the drums sound was little loud, I thought this song would be better with more violin player. Paco Perez’s song Luna de Xelaju performed next; this is a waltz music format (count to 3/4).…

It was very soothing and relaxing to listen to. The music that the group produced was smooth throughout the concert. In the second song, the trumpet player used the technique of covering the hole of the trumpet where the sound comes out of with his hand and it made the trumpet sound similar to the trombone. The music was smooth and slow enough that one could move to it and follow along with it.…

This piece really spoke to me through the idea of it being a mixture of so many great songs and it was still a great piece. This piece has influence to the world to me because it shows that artist can recreate someone else’s song and make it into their own unique work. The listeners should listen to the way the artist change the rhythm of what they are normally expecting the song to be. The duration of the song is shorter than what it normally is, so they only get a glimpse of the song, causing them to need to listen in closely.…

I really liked how it showed the sad part of the slums and Brazil before it introduced the music because it really showed how much of an affect music can have on a culture. It was fairly easy to follow along in the film. The organization was great because it started out introducing the culture and then bringing in the musical aspect of it. The only thing that made it a bit difficult to watch was that it was in a different language, so I had to look at the subtitles the whole time, which made it a little more difficult for me to pay attention to what was happening in the actually film because I was trying to read the…

Now there were a couple songs in this but I really enjoyed the first one the best, so I focused on that song more but many of the songs are similar in there beat. This concert had four instruments all of which were string instruments which allowed for the song to flow better with each instrument. I love the sound of violin and viola together, while the cello and guitar are strumming at a lower beat than them. Overall this concert was amazing I could see and hear so much beauty through the entire performance.…

This was my favorite because it sounded like a more modern song and an easy song to dance to! If more jazz performances were like this one song, I would go all of the time. This song woke me up and was very upbeat. I liked that we got to see the two assistant conductors perform since they are going to be doing this on a daily basis. They did a very good job.…

I notice when the piece changed gears and calm was after the flutes had a solo part of their own. That was kind of the turning point. Also I had to give notice to the triangle player, even though he had a small instrument, the way he contributed was quite surprising. There was a long period of time he had to keep beat and pace with the rest which looked easy but I noticed he had to get into it himself with head bobs to keep himself in rhythm. I really took notice to how each individual ether taped there toe or movement with their knee to keep rhythm with the…

All the dancers that participated in it all had their own personal stories that they could relate to which made the dance so special. Everyone was truly happy to be performing and telling the story. Another thing that really worked well with the dance was all the different parts throughout the dance along with the formations. Never did I once get bored and drift off into space while that dance was on stage. The choreography was so dynamic and unique that you never knew what to watch because everything that was going on was so beautiful.…
