Overall, I believe my experiences, interests and goals align well with the PLFSOM mission. Primarily, in my four years of medical school I hope to receive and excellent education that will prepare me for a career as a physician, which I believe I would receive this at the PLFSOM. However, as well as medical education I hope to have access to diverse opportunities to expand my interests and develop as a physician and in other ways. I believe these types of opportunities would be available to me at the PLFSOM and in El Paso in general. The experience I had earlier in college doing bench research and my current work doing human research have increased my interest in pursuing research in the future.…

If I could turn my passion into a successful business it would be a small school for the arts. I think it is a good idea because there are many people who love the arts like I do and the small school would be where they go to learn more. You can love music and not know what a time signature is but, if you went to a class about music then you could learn much more. There are many students that love the arts however they are not given the opportunity to take art class, dance, music class,or drama at their schools, this would given them the chance. The way I would start my business would be to go to school for business but continue doing the arts along with working to save money.…

I became interested in Korean during my sophomore year in high school. At the time, I was learning Mandarin in school and exploring French outside of school. Due to the experience, I was able to gain insight on my learning capabilities and understand my learning style. Frankly, I found it remarkably difficult to balance my study of French with my school related pursuits. This was not necessarily due to the difficulty of the task, but my inability to create a firm platform for me to expand my knowledge from.…

I returned to college to complete my prerequisites for physical therapy school, where the PBL approach was first presented to me. I became a tutor for the Learning Assistant Center at City College of San Francisco, and shortly thereafter became a teaching assistant for my Anatomy professor. In these settings, I was able to utilize the PBL approach where my scientific knowledge had greatly expanded. I facilitated group demonstrations of the human cadaver, tutored students in and out of class, and made anatomy relatable and understanding to my peers. I developed leadership skills as I assumed more responsibility, and applied all the knowledge I learned from lab to various clinical settings including at the Veterans Affairs hospital and…

No matter how long I live, I will likely always vividly remember going to the doctor with my father when I would get sick. I will always remember how the doctor could simply touch where I was hurting, give me some medication, often in the derriere, and within a few minutes I was cured. My young perception of doctors was simple: Doctors are magicians who cure the illnesses with magic. I always wondered, “How did the doctors know exactly what to do to me to make me feel better?” It was a question that would fuel my intellectual curiosity towards the “doctor’s magic,” leading me to ask questions regarding these things, and exploration of every textbook related to the human body that I could place my hands on.…
