The Industrial Revolution was a period in which large changes occurred in agriculture, textile and metal manufacture, transportation, economic policies and the entire social structure in England. It was a long, slow process in which production shifted from hand told to machines and in which new sources of power such as steam and electricity replaced human and animal power. The Agricultural Revolution kick started the Industrial Revolution. The inventions of machines to help in farming helped increase the food production that was needed to feed the population of England that was growing. New farming techniques were also introduced. Changing patterns of land ownership, known as the enclosure movement, also contributed to the Agricultural Revolution.
