This film depicted the realities of the struggle of freedom, war and life after slavery, it equally summarized the strength and perseverance despite of brutality of life in the south. While the movie was told by Jane Pittman as she celebrated her birthday. It began with a contrast of young and old. It was about the insurrection of youth and the wisdom of age.
