Aztec Background:
The Aztecs are a tribe who were believed to have originated on the northern part of Mexico. According to History.com, “the Aztecs began as a tribe of hunter-gatherers whose name came from their homeland of Aztlan”, and during the beginning of the 13th century they arrived in Mesoamerica and settled in the city of Tenochtitlan where they began to build their empire. Aztecs quickly began to make alliances to help defeat nearby rival tribe Tepanec and conquer their capital city of Azcapotzalco. By 1440, the Aztec empire began to expand and grow under new leader Moctezuma and the city of Tenochtitlan became the most densely populated city in Mesoamerica with over 140,000 inhabitants (History.com).
