This means humans have preconceptions and boxes they like to fit things in. Rather than adapting to new information and experiences, humans tend to try and fit what they see into a rigid box instead. Lee recommends people to think outside the box by expanding their horizons and letting the experience, the water, decide what shape their conceptions take.
As for crashing, that's a concept of force. Meaning, when something is hit by water, it doesn't get "hurt" because water is all that dense or "sharp". People get hurt because of the weight of the water. It's all the water molecules combined in the wave that people feel, all crashing into them. It's the surf. That's what makes it power.
