I know that I would lack the knowledge of the physical damage that drugs and alcohol could do to people. Such as, alcohol effects on a person brain and body. I don’t understand the addiction portion, where people can’t go with liquor or drugs. Dealing with clients that are abuser, I know that I would consistently have to listen to people lie and say that they are going to quit, but in reality it all talk. It would be difficult for me to believe that I’m doing a good job as a social worker, providing clients with resource to help they addiction. I believe that most clients would reject or act as they are using my services and they are not. Also, what I know about this group already is based solely off my own family. In order for me to gain the knowledge and skills, I would have to take a training courses specify about drug and alcohol abuser. It would take nothing to research a six month program that would give me all the proper techniques and skills that would make me an expert in handling drugs and alcohol abusers. I do plan in my career to work in drug and alcohol counseling. So, the likely hood of me completing these steps to obtain certification for working with clients with addicts is very high.
