When the topic of the Holocaust is brought up, you automatically think of the concentration camps. Concentration camps were made to keep people who were against Hitler and “different” away. “Different” people meaning Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, and criminals. The first camps were established in Germany as soon as Hitler’s appointment as Chancellor on January 1933. Concentration camps were being established all over Germany, and later all over Europe. There were a total of approximately 20,000 camps, including concentration, transit, forced labour, and death camps. SS officers were in charge of the camps, they were camp inspectors. Concentration camps were made for work labour, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t have gas chambers. Gas chambers were the most effective method. They would killed people who were “unfit” for working, so mainly the elderly and babies. How this would work was they would tell the people that they’re going to take a shower but in reality, they were being gas to death. The chambers had dispensers on the ceiling where it would let out gas. All the doors were close shut and there were no way to get out. This way it’s easier to kill them all at once instead of killing them individually. Another method they use to kill people was, gassing trucks. Jews were forced to a sealed shut truck and be suffocated to death. They would also throw the Jews into an oven and burn them. The Nazi police would stand in front of the pile of people they killed and take pictures. Like when hunters go hunting and take pictures of them and their dead animal, this is the same thing but with dead humans. They do this to show off and send back home to their family to see. Being trap in an area where you were forced to work to death and witnessing many people die. Living off a low food supply and little to no heat. Being killed for following their culture or even the way they look or act. This is completely unfair to them. No one deserves to die or live like that. Even if they survived, they have nothing left. Everything they had ever owned were destroyed. Looking for a separated family member was even harder. They could’ve been at different camps, miles and miles away. But sometime that’s not the case, they could’ve also been killed. These people do not deserve this and up to six years of their lives were gone. Six years of them possibly going to get an education, getting a great job, and etc. But instead they were imprisoned in a camp, and there is nothing anyone could ever do to repay them.
