“What’s happened? Have we stopped?” “The Container” written by Clare Bayley and directed by Tom Wright gives us the story of five immigrants who struggle to get to one destination to achieve the same thing, a better life. Produced in 2007 by Tom Wright and acted by William El-Gardi, Mercy Ojelade, Deborah Leveroy, Chris Spyrides, Edward Mostafa and Doreene Blackstock who bring the story to life by giving us a better understanding of their character role by showing us their hardships and reasons of wanting to leave their own country.

One of the characters seems private and very concerned about her daughters well being by complaining how hungry she was. This only proved how ones own family can go against each other when placed in these types of situations. This anger is seen towards the middle of the play when a woman is taken away for not being able to pay her way.
Clare Bayley uses a small container that portrays a train vessel which is the obvious reason anyone would go crazy with anxiety. This is a good way of bringing us viewers into the play with the cast. You can feel the anger of the main gentlemen in charge yet he is exactly like them. He screams “Shut up” several times to the loud mother and daughter who are tired, afraid and hungry. Claiming to be mother and daughter or aunt and niece and not being either one, just comes to show that no one can be trusted. The Turkish man in the container seems to have a better relationship with the agent which makes things very questionable. These three characters caught my attention due to their dishonesty. Every man for themselves is what it showed and that’s how it is. Smuggling immigrants has no compassion in it at all. The agent takes the money, does what he can but does not care what happens after that. Someone in the crowd however, always works for an agent. So who do you trust? No
