The Emancipation Proclamation was the finish line for slaves on their way to being free. It gave slaves hope that they might escape the situation they were in. With Lincoln on the freeing of slaves side, many southerners turned against Lincoln. With that being stated, southerners had to figure something out so they can stop the abolishment of slavery. In his worst nightmare, he would have never imagined slavery being abolished. When Lincoln became president and started working day and night to abolish slavery, Booth knew he needed to do something about it, so he gathered a couple of people and made a plan. The first plan, was to capture Lincoln in his box at Ford Theater, then lower him to the stage in ropes. The second plan, was to capture Lincoln as he traveled in his carriage, but this plan collapsed because Lincoln had other plans. On the evening of April 11th, President Lincoln gave a speech to tell the people would reconstruct when slavery was finally abolished. (Roger Norton, 2010) This angered Booth, as he stated, “Now, by god, I’ll put him through. That is the last speech he will ever make.
