In Mark Haddon’s novel, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, the story starts with Christopher, an autistic boy, finding a dead dog on his neighbor Mrs. Shears’s lawn. The beginning of the novel mostly takes place at Christopher’s home, his school, and occasionally the lawn where he first found the dog, as he was trying to deduce who killed the dog. As the plot progresses, Christopher is forced to venture out into new places in order to continue investigating the murder of the dog, Wellington. Christopher goes to each house on his street and questions each of the owners, a risk he normally would not have taken because of his distaste for interacting with strangers and desire to be alone.
