When Cortes found out that the people of Mexico didn’t know what a horse was he used them to his advantage. He made it known that these so called beats could tear them apart and he was the only one that could clam them down. Cortes was a very bright person but also manipulated. He knew how to work these people and to get what he wants. Cortes thought that he had this conquest in the bag, that when he fought the Indians that he captured two of them to take back to camp but let them go with a letter to give to their leader. The leader told them that if they would come back to camp he would forgive them and they could be friends. During this battle Cortes made sure to use everything he had to win. With the guns, horses, and all the men he had to make sure he could take over the conquest. Which he ended up winning and gaining an alliance with them. Everything has come to Cortes like it was on a silver platter. He worked for some of the things but not as hard as he should have to prepare him for future events. After this Cortes got the news that Moctezuma was plaining on ambushing his army and killing everyone. Meaning Cortes got scared and instead of going right after him he decided to go to a completely different group that wasn’t involved. The group being the Cholula. During this time, it was a complete massacre of the entire army. All because Cortes was to scared to just attack Moctezuma and take over, he knew he would have lost and didn’t want the Mexicans to think he wasn’t a god like figure.
