The Dangers Of Power In George Orwell's Animal Farm

Ever been the leader of something and started taking advantage of it? This is one of the questions people would ask after reading George Orwell’s Animal farm. The book displays class conflicts and showing how some classes are more equal than other ones.This book was an allegory to the Soviet Union and the allies during World War II. People can see the well known leaders and allies in some of the characters. Orwell shows how badly the working class was treated comparing it to times in the Soviet. In Animal Farm George Orwell uses conflict, dialogue, and irony to display the theme dangers of power. Orwell uses conflict as a literary device to show how Napoleon got in control and showed how power can make people dangerous. one example is “.., broke into a passionate appeal in favor of the windmill. Until now the animals had been about equally divided in their sympathies,”(Orwell 57). Napoleon stood up during snowballs speech to build a windmill and sent 9 dogs to attack and chase snowball out of the farm. Orwell showed how this caused Napoleon to react we he saw he was losing power so he acted hostile. “Napoleon stood sternly surveying his audience; then he uttered a high-pitched whimper. immediately the dogs bounded forward, seized the four pigs by the ear and dragged them,”(Orwell 82). He shows the dangers of power many different ways in the book. For example, Napoleon was always paranoid when he was in charge he thought people were working with snowball against him. Napoleon was killing his fellow animals if they didn't listen to him. Napoleon was over working the other animals because he was a pig and pigs were in charge. Orwell is trying to teach us how power can get to us and turn us into something that we never thought we would
