A character in any story demonstrates such emotions that it begins to describe themselves as a whole. In the short story, "The Dead", written by James Royce presents a character named Gabriel, and presents various aspects that develops a mystery for the reader. His character, throughout the story, slowly reveals his true characteristics. In the story, the first appearance of Gabriel is when he is leaning on his elbow, looking at a woman sleeping. As it develops, Gabriel seems to have known about the woman's life as he described that someone died for her. With his curious eyes, he looked to the woman, wondering if how she use to be in her youth, as she no longer beautiful like before. Gabriel even felt guilty of admitting that she wasn't
