There are many people that are diagnosed with this disease. Studies have shown that people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder have a very hard time learning at the same pace as the other kids (Block et al.). These kids that do not learn like the other kids also make many mistakes while working also (Block et al.). These studies also shown that one effect of ADHD is not being able to pay attention for a very long time (Block et al.). That means when they are class trying to learn that they will start day dreaming or not listening very easy. The students with ADHD also find it very hard to follow directions, and finish their work or chores (Block et al.). Another effect of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is they have a hard time speaking in front of people (Block et al.). They also do not organize very well, and will also have very dirty rooms or desk (Block et al.). Studies have also show that the students with ADHD frequently lose things like homework and classwork (Block et al.). Another effect that ADHD has on people is that they do not have a good sense of time and are always late (Block et al.). One treatment for ADHD is medicine. Most medications for ADHD are separated into stimulant and non-stimulant (Sanders et al.). The medication that treats it is called Adderall which is a stimulant (Sanders et al.). Most of the people that have ADHD will be treated with stimulant medication. Almost seventy seven percent to ninety percent will take the stimulant over the non-stimulant (Sanders et al.). Studies have shown that the stimulant medication is favored more because it shows improvement in academic accuracy, grades, and social functioning. The side effects of the stimulant medication is much worse than the non-stimulant. The side effects of the stimulant medication are insomnia, weight loss, headaches, upset stomach, and increase in blood pressure (Sanders et al.). Patients who take this kind of ADHD medicine also take the risk of serious side effects like slowing your growth and the possibility of seizures (Sanders et al.). Studies have shown that non-stimulant medication may take a longer period of time to reach its full benefit (Sanders et al.). There are some other treatments for the people that cannot tolerate the other medications. The other treatment is antidepressants (Sanders et al.).
