Color Influence On Food Choices

Foods and drinks are vital to fuel and maintain the functioning of the human body. So, what influences humans to choose what to eat and drink every day? A major factor when making food choices is color. Since birth, humans have associated colors to an assortment of objects (“How). When humans have given others the choice of food or drink, color influences one's decision. Many humans have done work and are researching these effects of color.
First, studies have been performed for effect of color on food choices. Color preference is dependent on the human brain and eyes working together (Fairchild). In the brain’s visual cortex, the interpretation of color occurs when neurons are stimulated. The stimulation of these neurons will give one a favorite color. When seen, the eyes will focus on the particular color preferences. Having a favorite color will affect muscle movements made in the motor cortex. To illustrate, in a study done by Science Buddies, they had the student record their favorite color on paper. Then, they had students choose twenty m and m’s out of a bowl. For example, some children and adults will not eat vegetables because of “nasty” green hue.
